F&NHB Celebrates Student Performance at the F&N Chairman’s Award 2024
Established in 2003, the F&N Chairman’s Award affirms F&NHB’s deep commitment to nurturing talent, fostering academic and co-curricular excellence and supporting the holistic development of young Malaysians. Secondary students are rewarded for achieving a minimum of 4As in their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) examinations, receiving RM100 for each ‘A’. Meanwhile, tertiary students admitted into a local or overseas university for a full-time undergraduate or Bachelor’s degree programme receive RM5,000 cash each while Special Awards are presented to students who win in Sports or Co-curricular competitions, with RM500 awarded for winning at the State level and RM1,000 awarded for winning at the National or International level. All award recipients also receive a Certification of Recognition.
“At F&NHB, we see our employees as not just key members who keep the company running smoothly, but also as members of society who contribute to building a better Malaysia. As a company with a long and deep history in Malaysia for the past 140 years, we want to continue nurturing future generations, and where better to start than with the children of our employees. By recognising the achievements of these promising young people, we want to reward their efforts and their parents’ commitment, and reaffirm F&NHB’s position as a stakeholder in building a better future for everyone in Malaysia,” said YAM Tengku Syed Badarudin Jamalullail, Chairman of F&NHB.
Mr Lim Yew Hoe, Chief Executive Officer of F&NHB, added, “For 140 years in Malaysia, the name F&N has been associated with good things, and for us, the philosophy behind ‘Pure Enjoyment, Pure Goodness,’ is not just about good products, but also about doing our best to generate a positive impact. Through our longstanding F&N Chairman’s Award programme, we are realising our commitment to enabling a better society and planet, by nurturing the youths of today to become future leaders who shape a better and brighter tomorrow.
“Congratulations to all award recipients and their families. F&N embraces diversity in our workforce from all over the country, and I am delighted to see their children contributing their varied life experiences as students from across East and West Malaysia into building a better future. With our focus on integrating AI and other cutting-edge technology into our operations, we are certainly encouraged to see among our recipients those undertaking relevant courses such as in AI, food tech, robotics and more,” Mr Lim said.
Rizard Anak David, father of John Barthalamious Anak Rizard, who was rewarded for achieving 6As in his SPM examinations, commended the programme. “The F&N Chairman’s Award not only affirms the importance of nurturing talent but also inspires me to be a supportive parent and team member. It motivates me to lead by example, both in my family and professional life, and has reinforced my belief in the importance of celebrating achievements, no matter how big or small,” he said.
His son John Barthalamious added: “Seeing my father’s commitment has taught me important values like perseverance, responsibility and the importance of contributing to a team. I aim to pursue my studies in mechanical engineering at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak and would like to make a positive impact on the world through this field to create a better society.”
Meanwhile, among students securing a place in university, Chong Wai Kit was recognised for being accepted into the BSc (Hons) in Computer Science (Cyber Security) course at Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU). He shared his hope to use his future career to protect people and organisations from cyber threats. “Cyber security has become a real concern among all walks of society. It is vital for developing countries to support digital growth and innovation. I believe this field will help me make a meaningful impact.”
His mother Yong Sow Fun expressed pride in being part of the F&N family. “I’m grateful to work for a company that genuinely supports its employees and families. The way F&N values employees, offering opportunities like the Chairman’s Award, is most meaningful to me.”
Another recipient Keerthana Saravanavelu, who had been accepted into the Bachelor of Accounting & Finance course at the University of Hertfordshire, spoke on her goal to start her career in accounting and explore international opportunities in the future. “I’d also like to continue working with different organisations in CSR projects at my workplace to help people all around the world.”
Her father Saravanavelu Rethinavelu, who works in Logistics and Distributions at F&N Shah Alam, remarked on the award programme’s motivational impact, appreciating the company’s culture of rewarding excellence. “I would like to thank F&N for organising this programme to motivate employees’ children to excel in education.
