F&N’S Poster Competition Showcases Children’s Wishes for a Greener Malaysia
The recently concluded poster competition by Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd (F&NHB), themed “How To Keep Malaysia Green with R-Boy”, saw students from around Malaysia expressing their aspirations for a better, greener Malaysia.
The poster competition was held from 15 June to 19 July 2022, and is part of F&NHB’s larger School Recycling Programme, which aims to instil good recycling habits in students from kindergartens to secondary schools. F&NHB had restarted its annual nationwide School Recycling Programme again after a two-year break due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The National Day theme this year, “Keluarga Malaysia Teguh Bersama” (Malaysian Family, Strong Together), has significant meaning for F&N. Commenting on the National Day theme and what it means to F&N, Karen Tan, F&NHB’s Director of Communications, Corporate Affairs & Sustainability said, “As a company that many generations of Malaysian families have trusted, we are aware of the responsibility to leave a legacy of a healthier, more sustainable environment for our next generation. Our annual school recycling programmes and green poster competitions are among the initiatives to effect positive change within our community, and we believe children are our most important catalyst.”
“Our School Recycling Programme aims to instil awareness and good recycling habits in students through the 5R philosophy of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rethink and Reinvent. Seeing how students expressed their vision for recycling and environmental issues was eye-opening and heartwarming. I especially love how students creatively incorporated recycled materials into the posters to create an interactive experience for the viewers,” she added.
The competition’s National Winners for the Primary and Secondary School categories were announced on 27 August at an event held at the PJ Eco Recycling Plaza in conjunction with National Day. The two winners are Sekolah Kebangsaan Sri Kelana for the Primary School category and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Convent Butterworth for the Secondary School category. The two winners will receive a reward of RM3,000 respectively.
The winning posters were selected by a panel of judges comprising Mr Lee Lih Shyan, Director of Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Department of the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), En Faizal Abdur Rani, Certified Green Project Manager (GPM-b) and Co-Founder of IMPACTLUTION, Ms Karen Tan, F&NHB’s Director of Communications, Corporate Affairs & Sustainability and Ms Terrynz Tan, Communications and Environment Director of Tetra Pak.
The poster competition saw submissions from schools in nine local councils across Selangor, Penang and Sarawak. The first round of judging was done at the local council level, where the first prize winners were selected for each local council. These first-prize winners were then entered into the National Finals, from which the two (2) National Prize winners were selected. The nine first-prize council winners are:
1. Sekolah Kebangsaan Tan Sri Awang Had Salleh – Penang
2. Sekolah Kebangsaan Convent Butterworth – Butterworth
3. Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Convent Butterworth – Butterworth
4. Sekolah Kebangsaan Sri Kelana – Petaling Jaya
5. Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seksyen 27 Shah Alam – Shah Alam
6. Sekolah Kebangsaan Kampung Cheras Baharu – Ampang Jaya
7. Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seri Keramat – Ampang Jaya
8. Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (C) Wah Man – Sarawak
9. Sekolah Menengan Kebangsaan Bandar Kuching No. 1 – Sarawak
Top 3 submitted posters from Primary and Secondary school of each local council are displayed at the PJ Eco Recycling Plaza until 16 September 2022. Coinciding with the National Judging and Merdeka Day celebration, F&NHB also arranged fun activities for the public at the PJ Eco Recycling Plaza, including puzzles, memory cards, and eco-brick making on 27 August, 2022.
All the poster competition winners will receive their prizes at the closing ceremony of F&N’s School Recycling Programme, to be held at the end of this year.
